Highway Bridge Construction

Design and construction of a 450-meter highway bridge with dual carriageway, including approach roads and drainage infrastructure.

About This Project

This critical infrastructure project involves the design and construction of a 450-meter prestressed concrete highway bridge spanning the Msimbazi River valley. The bridge features a dual carriageway with two lanes in each direction, pedestrian walkways on both sides, and dedicated utility corridors for future services.

The bridge is constructed using the balanced cantilever method with match-cast precast segments, a first for a project of this scale in Tanzania. This innovative approach significantly reduces construction time while maintaining the highest structural standards.

The project scope also includes 2.5 kilometers of approach roads on both sides, complete with modern drainage systems, street lighting, and traffic management infrastructure. Environmental mitigation measures include wildlife crossings beneath the bridge and restoration of riverside vegetation.

All work is being carried out in accordance with TANROADS specifications and international bridge design standards (BS EN 1992 Eurocode 2), with regular third-party quality audits ensuring compliance at every stage.
