Hospital Wing Extension
Extension of a regional hospital including new surgical wing, ICU facility, and modern diagnostic center with state-of-the-art medical equipment installation.
About This Project
This healthcare construction project involved the design and construction of a major extension to a regional referral hospital in Mwanza. The new wing adds 12,000 square meters of clinical space including four state-of-the-art operating theaters, a 20-bed intensive care unit, a modern diagnostic center with MRI and CT scanner rooms, and a 60-bed general ward.
Construction in an active hospital environment required meticulous planning and execution. We implemented a phased construction approach with temporary barriers and dedicated construction access routes to ensure zero disruption to ongoing hospital operations. Noise and dust mitigation measures exceeded regulatory requirements.
The building features hospital-grade MEP systems including HEPA-filtered air handling for operating theaters, medical gas distribution, emergency power backup with dual redundancy, and a nurse call system integrated with the hospital's existing IT infrastructure.
Special attention was paid to infection control during construction, with dedicated clean zones maintained throughout the build process. The project was delivered on time and within budget, with the new wing now serving over 200 patients daily and significantly reducing patient referrals to Dar es Salaam.
